Somaliland government has nominated an inclusive and broad-based national committee to prepare and lay down guidelines for the upcoming negotiation meetings between Somaliland and Somalia, this was revealed by Somaliland Minister of Information and government spokesperson Abdirahman Yusuf Duale “Boobe”.
The London conference provided a unique opportunity for Somaliland to present its case in front of an international forum and the final outcome was the unprecedented distinction between Somalia and Somaliland. it is high time for TFG Prime Minister to clearly acknowledge that Somaliland is not part of the Somalia chaos and the road map intended to solve it, said Hon Boobe.
Hon Boobe also urged the TFG Prime Minister Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas, to abstain from his continued insinuations that the main agenda of the proposed talks with Somalia was reconciliation”, let him be informed that times have changed and nobody can be forced into reunification or any union.
Minister of Information added, besides other important issues, Item 6 of the Conference Communiqué underscores the need for international community stewardship and support for any discussions on the future relationship between the two entities;(6. The Conference recognized the need for the international community to support any dialogue that Somaliland and the TFG or its replacement may agree to establish in order to clarify their future relations).
It should be noted that Somaliland has in the past not been part of the countless conferences held for Somalia since 1991; and has not been part of the “Road Map” which focuses on South-Somalia (former Italian Somalia) either. This is an important issue that the international delegates coming to London peace conference should be aware of.
To this effect, the government of Somaliland has appointed a 5 member technical committee with the mandate to prepare and lay down the guidelines for the talks with Somalia.
The Somaliland technical committee for the talk’s is composed of:
1. Minister Foreign- Dr Mohamed Abdilahi Omar
2 1st Deputy Speaker of parliament -Hon Bashe Mohamed Farah
3 Chairman of UCID Political party -Hon Feisal Ali Warabe
4 Minister of Labour & Social Affairs Hon Mahmoud Ahmed Barre (Garaad)
5 Minister of Presidency- Hon Hirsi Haji Ali Hasan
Therefore, we hope our Somali brethren will acknowledge that the days of the union are long gone unlike in 1960 when it was widely supported by the public and the political leadership of both sides, one thing is for sure we will not relinquish the sovereignty of Somaliland nor allow anyone to weaken the peace that exists in Somaliland.
We also hope establish brotherly relations and to discuss future cooperation as two sovereign countries .
